ABOUT

Let’s Get Real…

First things first, I don’t want to waste your time.

It’s not easy to find a therapist. How many web searches have you done, profiles have you clicked on, websites have you viewed? It’s exhausting, especially when you’re already overwhelmed. You’re tired of seeing the same buzzwords and promises like “safe-space” and “non-judgmental environment” and wondering what that even means. Many people give up because it’s so overwhelming.

I get it and so I created this page to make it easy for you to determine if I might be a good fit for you. Finding the right therapist is important and I want you to feel confident that you know what you’re getting into before you book a consultation.

Here’s Where Most Therapists Copy & Paste Their Resume

Don’t get me wrong, degrees and experience are important but they don’t answer the number one question on your mind: can you help me? I find it’s helpful to talk first about the kinds of clients that have success working with me – if that clicks for you, then it’s likely you’ll want to know more about my background and experience. If not, you can be on your merry way and move on to the next therapist’s website. I always find it helpful to start with the client rather than myself because therapy is about you, not me.

The clients that have the most success in therapy with me usually come in with the knowledge that their life as is is not working for them and they are actively trying to make a change. They understand that therapy is a process, not a quick fix and I cannot simply tell them to make a few life changes and everything magically gets better. They appreciate that I am both nurturing and straightforward and I dive straight into the issues headfirst.

Many of my clients have tried therapy in the past but stopped because of negative experiences. Either their therapist was too passive or they were focused on things that did not seem relevant to the client. My goal is to make sure that your concerns are front and center – we might dig into other things, but only if it’s relevant and you’re ready and willing to go there. You’ll also never hear me say “how did that make you feel.”

I Tell It Like It Is

My clients appreciate that I “tell it like I see it.” I also am known to curse like a sailor (an ongoing joke is that if I make it through a session without dropping the f-bomb, I’m having an off day). I encourage clients to express themselves freely as well – so long as you aren’t cursing me out, you’re welcome to say just about anything in session that you want!

Most of the clients who work well with me are active participants in therapy. They understand that coming to therapy is not enough on it’s own – you have to put the skills, practices, and ideas into use in your life in order for life to change. These clients are often tired of the same tapes playing intheir heads that result in them feeling anxious, tired, and unworthy and are ready to change them. They are committed to making changes in their life and realize that therapy is not a “quick fix” but an investment in themselves and their future.

I know why you’re here – you’re looking for a way out of the life that no longer feels satisfying to you. I don’t solve your problems for you but I do help to puzzle out the issues. Instead of doing this alone, you’ve got a partner with a different perspective who can shed some light on things you can’t even see because of your viewpoint. I’m not fixing you because you are not broken. Instead, we are working together to improve your life from the inside out.
