Frequently Asked Questions
Most potential clients have questions so I’ve tried to answer the most common ones here.
I’m not sure if therapy is for me. How can I find out?
I believe anyone can benefit from therapy. However, I also understand that the idea of talking to a stranger can be daunting. I offer a free, 20 minute phone consultation so we can talk about what is bringing you to therapy and so you can get a taste of my personality and style.
If you’re a feminist therapist does that mean you only work with women?
Absolutely not! Though I specialize in working with women I have experience working with men, non-binary, and transgender individuals. Feminist therapy is a great base for working with clients from any type of background!
Is therapy really confidential?
Yes! With a few exceptions designated by law (which I detail in our intake session) therapy is confidential. This level of privacy helps clients feel comfortable talking openly about their lives with their therapist.
How much does therapy cost?
Intake sessions are 90 minutes long and are $200. Individual sessions are $140 for 50 minutes. Sessions that last longer than 50 minutes are charged accordingly. See more information about pricing here.
What is an intake session?
At our first session, I perform an intake. This means I will gather lots of information to get a better understanding of your life to get a big picture of what is going on. From there, we will work together to set goals so we know what we are working towards. Subsequent sessions are client driven and much less structured.
Where is your office located?
Currently due to COVID-19, I am not offering any in office appointments for the safety of myself and my clients. If you have questions about online therapy, please see the mini-FAQ on my get started page here for more information.
How do I schedule appointments?
If you are a new client, you can schedule a free 20 minute phone screening through my online system – no phone tag needed! Click the get started button below to schedule. Once we determine if we are a good fit, I will discuss the process for sheduling ongoing appointments.
What should I expect from our phone consult?
A phone consult is just a quick chat to make sure that we are a good fit. Prior to your scheduled appointment, I will send out a brief questionaire that will let me know what you are looking for and some historical information. The consult is a time for us to talk about style, fit, what you are looking for, and for you to ask any questions you might have.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not accept insurance at this time. Insurance panels require mental health professionals to submit detailed information about clients’ personal history, diagnosis, and treatment. Worse, disclosure of these details does not guarentee payment! A third party should not get to dictate your treatment. If you receive out of network benefits and are interested in submitting your own claim to insurance, I can provide a receipt to assist you. For more information, click here.
How do you accept payment?
I require all clients to keep a credit card on file which is automatically charged after each appointment. Once I return to in person therapy sessions, I will accept check and cash payments at the time of service if you do not want to have your card charged. You must still keep a card on file in case of late cancelations or insufficient funds from a check.
What is your cancelation policy?
In order to avoid a late cancelation fee, you must cancel your appointment within 24-hours of your scheduled appointment time. If you do not provide proper notice, the late fee is the same as for a full session and will be charged to your card on file. I’m also human and understand that life happens so I will consider extinuating circumstances on a case by case basis.
What are your office hours?
Sessions are by appointment only. Currently I am only offering sessions in the early mornings, evenings, and on Saturdays. I am hoping to offer sessions during the day soon.
